About
Alan Welding is a freelance photographer (member of International Freelance Photographers Organization and correspondent for Today’s Photographer Magazine and American Image Press) who is fairly new to the craft, but enthusiastically learning. He is a teacher of English, Rhetoric, and Journalism at Chartiers Valley High School in Bridgeville, PA. He often writes for The Steelesque Movement and submits photos and articles mainly to local publications. Besides teaching and taking photos, Alan is involved in music and art through various mediums.
Alan is a 17 year veteran of the Chartiers Valley Staff. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1991 with a BA in English Literature and Communications as well as from Duquesne University with an MS in Secondary English Education in 1993. Alan has taught English at Baldwin HS, Steel Valley HS, and (obviously) CVHS. He has directed plays at CV, started the Art and Literary Magazine Club Exhalations, produces the annual Talent show, teaches cyber school, was the CVFT union president for four years, former Classrooms for the Future Coach, former Blackboard/Blended Schools Coach, and current digital newspaper adviser. In his spare time Alan likes to play guitar, collect music memorabilia, read fiction and rock star biographies, create art, write, attempt to stay fit, and watch movies.
Currently Alan is completing his first screenplay (working title “Hoopie”) with South Fayette teacher Robert Eldridge. He portrays a mercenary in “The Dark Knight Rises” film (due July 2012) as well as a prisoner in “Out of the Furnace” (2014), both times working with Christian Bale. He plans to continue working on films and commercials when the opportunity arises. Mr. Welding resides in South Fayette with his beautiful wife Rea and their four fur babies (dogs) Axl (hound/lab), Romeo (chihuahua), Sophia (chihuahua), and Mona (lhaso apso/shih tzu) as well as their feather babies Nikko (conure parrot), Petunia (lovebird) and five parakeets. He plans on retiring one day to Aruba and to help his wife with her dream of starting an animal sanctuary.
